It takes a top-class number 10 player to identify another player who can play in that position. Jay-Jay Okocha’s clamor for Austin Eguavoen to play Alex Iwobi in the number 10 role was condemned by Super Eagles fans who believe the Legend is forcing his Nephew into the Super Eagles.

On the contrary, Okocha had only given Eguavoen the task of bringing out the best from Iwobi. An in-form Iwobi in the number 10 position brings more energy to the game than Iheanacho. Not because Senior Man Kelz cannot perform in that role. However, he can’t be consistent for a long time in this position because he’s a striker.

Iwobi opens up the passage of goals for the attackers, he’s selfless and can only experiment with scoring a goal when he’s in a better position to shoot. The natural number 10 sixth sense is in this lad and that’s why Okocha’s argument makes more sense to me with his recent performance at Everton.

Getting the best out of him is placing this lad back in the first team. He has to start behind Victor Osimhen in Nigeria’s upcoming games
