Barcelona are attempting to persuade Wolves to agree to a swap deal that would let them keep Adama Traore and leave Francisco Trincao at Molineux.

The Spanish giants have an option to buy Traore, who has been on loan since January, for about £29million in the summer, but their delicate financial position may prevent them from doing so.

Traore is keen to stay at the Nou Camp, where he began his career, and Barca would like to retain him.

But their chances of doing so may depend on convincing Wolves to take one of their squad players, with midfielder Riqui Puig another Barcelona are keen to shift.

Traore’s contract expires at the end of next season which means a second loan deal would have no benefit for Wolves.

‘I think a swap deal with Wolves between Francisco Trincao and Adama Traore could be a very good option,’ said Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

‘We’re really happy with Adama and his impact, attitude, performances.’

Trincao has spent the current campaign on loan on at Wolves from Barcelona but has struggled to make a strong case for a permanent move.

He has started only 14 matches in the league and had not registered a goal or an assist before claiming one of each in the 3-2 home defeat by Leeds, just before the international break – little indication that he would be an upgrade on Traore.

Agent Jorge Mendes represents Trincao and has an excellent relationship with the Wolves hierarchy, which is one element that could pave the way to a deal.

Much improved under new boss Xavi Hernandez, Barcelona have been looking to the Premier League to build their squad for next season.

Chelsea pair Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen are among their targets along with Raphinha, who has enjoyed two impressive seasons for Leeds United.

They have also made an ambitious attempt to bring in Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund but are thought to be behind Manchester City and Real Madrid in the race to land the Norwegian forward.
