Manchester City star Bernardo Silva says if he could return to Portugal in ‘one to two years’ he would as he misses playing for Benfica.

Silva was touted with a Manchester City exit in the summer of 2021 but remained as the club and established himself as one of Pep Guardiola’s most important players.

However, Silva has now revealed that he would like to return to his home country to be closer to his family and return to his boyhood club.

Speaking to Channel 11, Silva said: ‘I miss Portugal a lot. If I could go back in a year or two, I would. Not only because I would like to play for Benfica again, but because I miss my family and living in Portugal very much’.

Silva wanted to leave Manchester City in the summer but club did not receive any acceptable bids. As a result, he stayed at the Premier League giants.

However, the decision to keep hold of Silva has worked in Guardiola’s favour. He has become an important for the Manchester City squad.

Although, it remains to be seen as to how long Silva stays at the club. The 27-year-old is fond of his former club, Benfica, and could return within 12 months.

Speaking previously, Silva said: ‘Benfica is a big part of my life. I grew up going to Benfica matches with my father and also with my friends. Besides that, I played at Benfica for 12 years from the age of seven to 19.’

‘So it is almost half of my life. When I left, I was 19, almost 20 years old and it was a very difficult change because I wasn’t expecting it. But it turned out to be a good thing for my life to change and move to AS Monaco.’

‘But speaking of Benfica, it is an important part of my life not only as a supporter, but also later as a player which helped me grow a lot.’
