The 21-year-old, who is currently on loan at fellow Championship club Nottingham Forest, has caught the eye with his performances this season.

Antonio Conte’s side are understood to have made a bid to land Spence during the January transfer window.

And they are expected to make a fresh bid this summer, according to goal.com

North London rivals Arsenal are among a host of clubs monitoring his progress as they look at full-back options.

Bayern Munich have also been linked with the defender and Boro are expected to demand a fee in excess of £10million.

There is also interest from Bundesliga clubs Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen in a young player with plenty of potential for development.

Italian clubs Roma and Inter Milan have also been linked with Spence.

Spence, who is equally at home as an orthodox right-back or a wing-back, has scored twice and contributed three assists during 32 matches at the City Ground.

His performances in Forest’s defeats of Premier League clubs Arsenal and Leicester City in the FA Cup this season has boosted the interest in him.
