The customary yellow ball used during the winter months for visibility purposes will be replaced by a blue-and-white version released by the Premier League’s ball manufacturer.

This season’s model of ball is described as a ‘revolution in consistent flight’ and will be used as the title race, top-four battle and fight to avoid relegation reaches its conclusion.

According to the Premier League website, the ball has been honed over eight years and 1,700 hours of testing.

It has moulded grooves and 3D-printed ink, to help players ‘put the ball exactly where they want it – each and every time.’

It also has four fused panels to create a larger sweet spot on the ball for powerful shots, and the revolutionary aerodynamics results in 30 per cent truer flight compared to Nike’s previous Merlin ball.

Nike has been used as the supplier of the Premier League football since 2000, with different models gracing England’s top-tier.

The new ball will be used as Liverpool look to chase down Manchester City for the Premier League title, with the pair set to face off on April 10.

It’ll also be used as the battle to avoid relegation concludes, with Norwich, Watford, Burnley, Newcastle, Leeds and Everton all looking to secure their spot in the division.

The final day of the 2021-22 campaign is Sunday, May 22.
